I can't tell you how thrilled I am that the Drag Queen Story Hour exists. They are bridging a gap that needed to be bridged! As a good Christian God fearing woman, I believe in the core values taught to me in the bible, "love thy neighbor" " judge not, lest ye be judged" and always remember the "Golden Rule". From their website (click on the following quote to view their site:) "Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real."
Apparently some not so Christian hate groups have been targeting these lovely people who are bringing this service to the kids (and their awesome parents). What these hate groups don't consider is that maybe, just maybe, one of these kids in attendance might be the kid that seems a little "different" in school....the kid that feels a little "different". Maybe it's a little boy who wants to be a princess like his sister.....truly, teaching children the beauty of acceptance, that who they are on the inside is good and right and there is nothing wrong with them, and there is nothing wrong with being "different". Is that not what these so called "Christians" believe their bible tells them? I shame any of the hypoChristians who have the audacity to suggest that DQSH is doing anything but good! VIVA LA DQSH!!!! Love thy neighbor (even if her makeup is way better than yours;) ask a grrrrrl for some tips!
